ROELAND STREET IS A HIDDEN TREASURE OF CAPE TOWN'S HISTORY, CULTURE, AND STREET ART.


      THE GHOST OF ROELAND                           STREET 

Street in Cape Town, South Africa, is a historic street located in the heart of the city's CBD. The street is named after Anthony Roeland, who was a member of the Council of Policy at the Cape of Good Hope in the late 17th century.      OLD ROELAND STREET                           PRISON

The high, craggy stone surrounding walls of the Western Cape Archives are reminiscent of the fortifications of yester year, but they weren't built to defend themselves or keep people out. In fact, its purpose was the exact opposite. Today, only the exterior walls of the Rowland Street Jail archives and the main his entrance remain. Construction of the prison was completed in his 1859 and of course set the stage for many interesting stories of the time.
